🏗️ Scheltema & Co Completes Largest Asbestos Removal Project in 90-Year History
In the first quarter of 2025, Scheltema & Co undertook its largest asbestos roof replacement to date — a 40,000m² removal project at a production facility in Blackheath, Western Cape.
This milestone project is being carried out in full compliance with the November 2020 asbestos regulations, while the facility continues to operate—thanks to close collaboration with the tenants and landlord. (Access the regulations here).
To protect the health of all involved, no cutting, grinding, or drilling of asbestos materials is allowed. These high-risk activities can release dangerous fibers into the air. Instead, the material is safely stripped without disturbing the asbestos.
Scheltema’s experienced safety consultants are on-site throughout, supported by independent asbestos inspections and air quality monitoring to ensure zero fiber release and full regulatory compliance.
