In addition, the company has earned a strong reputation in the fields of timber frame construction, asbestos removal, specialist roof construction, heritage projects and turnkey office refurbishments.
Most iconic heritage buildings within Cape Town are covered with clay tiles, which typically have a life expectancy of +/- 60 years, necessitating their replacement with either the same tiles or those of a similar specification, in accordance with heritage council guidance and approval. Heritage projects generally involve the sensitive removal of existing clay tiles and replacement with new tiles in accordance with the methodology used at the time of the original installation. These types of installations require skilled workmanship, and since Scheltema has a significant track record in this respect, the company has been entrusted with major replacements at the Groote Schuur Hospital precinct and UCT Upper Campus, both of which remained fully operational for the duration of the projects.
